Hi everybody, it's time for this weeks top 5 post and this week we will be tackling B2B Chargers (battery to battery/DC to DC Chargers)
These are pretty new to the market and are an awesome replacement for the much older less efficient split charge relays. Split chargers have had their day and it is time for them to move aside and let B2B chargers take over where they left off.
The difference between B2B chargers and split chargers is huge with B2B chargers being able to fully charge your leisure battery to 100% where as the split charge relays would only get it to about 80%. The B2B chargers also charge your leisure battery about 4 times quicker than split charge relays so driving 1 hour a day is the equivalent to driving 4 hours with a split charger (roughly not exact maths).
So if you are wasting your time wondering if your time working out if your vans alternator is a smart alternator you can stop now as these work on both, the split charger will only work on older vans so thats another strike against them.
Just like the split charge relays they are extremely easy to fit yourself at home in an hour or two and you can get kits with all the cables, fuses and connectors you will need to install them.

5. Renogy RNG-DCC Using Multi-Stage Charging, 20A DC to DC Battery Charger
AWESOME BUDGET OPTION
So coming in at number 5 is a unit by one of our favourite go to brands and thats Renogy, they make lots of decent equipment and this is no exception.
This B2B charger is only 20 amps so is a good option with people with small battery banks up to about 200ah, it is nice and small so doesn't take up too much space and is compatible with all kinds of leisure batteries from lead acid to lithium
4. CTEK D250SE 12V 20AMp Dual Battery to Battery Charger
Don't get me wrong this is an awesome b2b charger by an awesome brand and it would have made it higher in the list if it was suitable for larger battery banks. However this B2B charger is our NO 1 CHOICE for anybody with a battery bank 260ah of under, this can be a single battery or 2 batteries joined together in parallel. It also has a built in MPPT solar charge controller so you can easily add 200W of solar (or wind turbine) to your set up without the need for a separate expensive solar charge controller.
Again this charger is compatible with any leisure battery type.
3. Sterling Power 12v 30amp & 60amp Battery to Battery Chargers BB1230 & BB1260

Another simple but amazing b2b charger is the Sterling power range (they also do waterproof B2B chargers for marine use and 24v truck to 12v leisure battery chargers if that is something you need check them out).
These are very simple but very effective and charge your batteries up to 10 x faster than a split charge relay.
The 30 amp charger is recommended for single batteries or battery banks up to 220 ah
The 60 amp charger is recommended for battery banks larger than 220ah or for smaller battery banks when faster charging is needed. Again this charger is compatible with any leisure battery type.
2. Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A (360W) Non-Isolated DC-DC Charger
Victron energy are one of the best makes on the market for anything that will charge a 12v battery be it a B2B charger, solar MPPT controllers or even onboard 240v chargers for when you are o hook up so its no surprise that they are high up on our list, if it had a built in solar MPPT controller it might have made it to the top spot.
These are very easy to install and very good at their job and work particularly well with other Victron equipment.
This unit is 30 amp so will charge medium sized battery banks of about 200 - 260 ah quickly and
Again this charger is compatible with any leisure battery type.
1. Renogy 50A DC-DC On-board Battery Charger with MPPT
And in first place is this truly amazing unit not only is it 50 amp so can handle big battery banks without a problem or can charge a 100ah battery from 50% to 100% with just an hour of driving it also has a built in MPPT solar charge controller that can take a whopping 660W of solar.
It is also in my opinion the best looking out of all the B2B chargers but I'm not sure how important that is to most people.
Another benefit of having a built in MPPT solar charge controller is if you do add solar to your set up once your leisure batteries are fully charged your B2B charger will then charge your starter battery via your solar too if needed so you will never need to worry about needing a jump start ever again. (the CTEK D250SE also does this too)
